Integrating a suitable sun protection system into listed buildings often requires careful coordination between the requirements of the monument protection authority, the wishes of the client, and the plans of the architect. The preservation of the historic façade’s appearance is always the top priority.
At the same time, the possible uses of these buildings change over time, subjecting them to new building regulations for summer heat protection and energy saving. Compliance with workplace guidelines is also often required, which prescribe a maximum room temperature of 26°C.
Below (see image) we can present only selected examples illustrating how compromises were found in favor of all parties involved when dealing with cultural assets and monuments. Each construction project is unique and must therefore be considered individually. Unfortunately, there is no universal sun protection system that is equally suitable for all listed windows.

In the image on the right you can see the mechanism of a counter-pull awning, as used, for example, on patio roofs or winter gardens. At SOLARMATIC®, we have modified and further developed these counter-pull systems for circular shading.
Today’s counter-pull awnings, which can operate from bottom to top, incorporate 34 years of experience. We develop, produce and install sun protection for arched windows. We are also happy to train a local specialist company at your location.
Our team of over 130 employees has built a strong reputation beyond national borders. Classic sun protection systems such as venetian blinds, zip-screens, awnings and roller shutters are, of course, part of our daily business in external sun protection. Increasingly, manual operation or chiseling work for motor cable installation is avoided. SOLARMATIC® solar-powered roller blinds are therefore often preferred.
Shading a standard roof window is no great challenge and can be achieved using standardized roof window blinds. However, there is also another area — non-standard roof windows and roof glazing, e.g. in extension buildings.
